Funded jointly by the community and the Ministry of Health.
Situated in the heart of Matamata, Pohlen Hospital takes pride in its independence and ability to deliver a broad range of health services to the local community. With 33 beds available, it holds contracts with Te Whatu Ora for key areas of care including Maternity, Primary (GP), Aged Care, Transitional, Palliative and End of Life, Respite and Carer Support.

Working in collaboration with the Pohlen Foundation Trust, its not-for-profit status ensures accessibility to a wide range of health providers with dedicated services, clinics and visiting Consultants.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
Reporting directly to the Board, you will bring a fresh perspective to all aspects of hospital operations. You will lead a passionate and committed team to deliver on the organisation’s strategic vision, reinforcing its reputation as a true community partner. You will bring an energy and business focus to;

  • Provide leadership to a diverse team of health professionals, administration staff, and support personnel, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and community.
  • Deliver effective business planning, financial management and strategic advice to the Board on operational performance, projects and initiatives that enhance the growth of Pohlen Hospital, including capital investments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in the delivery of clinical services, with alignment to the wider health sector and future community needs.
  • Oversee the effective running of general business operations, including resourcing and facilities management, to optimise the delivery of existing hospital services.
  • Develop, foster and maintain critical relationships with healthcare providers, funding partners, regulatory bodies, tenants, volunteer and community groups.
  • Create a safe, supportive and collaborative culture of care for your team and the community.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • A tertiary qualification in business, health or hospital management or equivalent experience.
  • Proven leadership experience to inspire, energise and develop a dedicated team.
  • 5+ years in a similar strategic position, ideally with a service delivery focus.
  • Exceptional community relationships and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to analyse and distil complex matters, supporting effective business decisions for future growth and opportunity.
  • Strong commercial/ business acumen and a genuine curiosity to explore innovation and creativity.
