The team works collaboratively with key stakeholders in central and local government agencies, providing advice and court representation across a range of proceedings including criminal prosecutions, criminal proceeds recovery, coronial inquests, parole hearings and appeals.
About the role:
As the sole representative for the Crown in the Waikato, Hamilton Legal is looking to supplement its team with experienced litigators, undertaking complex casework within criminal prosecution and civil law.
Duties and responsibilities will vary dependent upon the levels of experience or subject matter expertise you bring. Working individually and collectively, you will;
- Run an independent caseload and support the senior team on files, representing the Crown in criminal prosecutions at a more complex level.
- Provide considered advice and legal opinion to civil and regulatory clients, representing them in court proceedings.
- Collaborate with clients, colleagues and external parties to develop effective legal strategies and achieve favourable outcomes.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues, being considered, respectful and constructive in growing their knowledge and capability.
- Conduct thorough file reviews, legal research and analysis to support case preparation and documentation, identifying risks for prompt resolution.
- Review and interpret legislation, regulations and legal precedents to assess the strength of cases.
About you:
Our ideal candidates will have;
- A minimum of four years criminal or civil litigation experience with a current practising certificate.
- The ability to manage a diverse caseload and prioritise tasks effectively.
- A critical eye for detail and the ability to identify risks, providing solutions to minimise their impact.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, confidently presenting and arguing points of law while maintaining integrity and fairness.
- The ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, sometimes pressured environment.
